Starting my Borderlines Film viewing this year with The Well Digger's Daughter and Resistance, I went on to see My Week with Marilyn and The Artist which were both set in the past and both showed a version of a film actor's life behind the scenes. The theme of A Useful Life, on the other hand, was that of a lonely projectionist who, on losing his job finds that he can re-create his romantic fantasies in the outside world.
